I am embarrassed by this photo. What should have been an otherwise stellar day, on a beautiful island in a boat in the South Pacific was instead a not-so-fun adventure because I was pining for my sunglasses that I left back on land. Instead of enjoying the moment I let disappointment dictate my day, and I wish I had this day back.
In many ways, as traders we often make the same mistake. We traders often think about the trades we missed out on, or exited too early (and therefore lost profit by not being more patient). But when do we sit down and consider what has gone right?
In the midst of a losing streak it may be depressing to consider your trading, but what if – instead of focusing on the negative you decided instead to focus on the positive… after all, if you are trading a profitable system, why concern yourself with an unlucky streak of losers?
Instead you might concern yourself with the great things about your trading. You are trading a system that makes money, you expect to see yourself making money in the future (given your extensive testing of the system), and you will probably experience a winning streak in the future – and that will be much more rewarding.
Perspective is everything – and it is not a coincidence that those who offer a positive attitude (and offer gratitude for what they have) seem to get more of what they are looking for.
Don’t take my word for it, try it out yourself.
